Pharmacy and Alchemy Museum

Pharmacy and Alchemy Museum

Step into the ground floor of the building in Linhart Square, and you’ll find yourself transported back in time. This unique, independent museum is a treasure trove of objects dedicated to pharmacy and alchemy, featuring furniture from old pharmacies adorned with ceramic containers, alchemistic laboratories, and vintage scales.

The extensive collection is the result of 40 years of passionate collecting from all corners of the world, focusing on items related to pharmacy, cosmetics, and alchemy. Housed in a beautifully restored bourgeois house, the exhibits showcase the rich history of these fields.

Noteworthy among the displays is a vast collection of Spanish and Italian alborel, elaborately decorated ceramic pots used for storing medicine. The museum proudly boasts a variety of mortars, with the oldest dating back to the 12th century, along with a collection of 30 pharmaceutical books, one of which originates from the 15th century.

Beyond this, the museum delves into the realms of ancient and Asian medicine, featuring intriguing objects, and presents an ethnological collection showcasing folk medicine practices on Slovenian territory. The comprehensive exploration of the history of cosmetics and perfumery is seamlessly connected to the story of the Mioba family company from Ljubljana.
